Margaret “Peg” Stessman is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and owner of StrategicHealthSolutions, LLC (Strategic). She is also Chairwoman of Strategic’s Board of Directors. Being the owner of Strategic, Stessman is part of the elite one percent of women that own large businesses.
In 2005, Stessman established Strategic as a partner in the fight against fraud, waste, and abuse in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. She employed a handful of people when she launched the company out of her home. After 12 short years, Stessman grew her small, Midwest-based business into the large-business category, currently employing hundreds of staff in three offices across the country. Strategic has received recognition from numerous organizations including the Inc. 5000 award, Inc. Impact 50 award, Washington Technology Fast 50 award, Smart CEO Gov Star award, and ESGR Patriot Award.
Stessman began her career as a nurse in 1985 and transitioned into senior management within the health care industry in the 1990s. In 1996, she became Quality Assurance Administrator for the State of Nebraska, overseeing Nebraska’s Medicaid Managed Care Program. In 1999, she served as Director of Operations and eventually became President and CEO of a nationally recognized government contracting company that focuses on program integrity and payment accuracy within the Medicare and Medicaid programs. During her five years, Stessman grew the company from a small division of two employees to a wholly owned subsidiary of more than 150 employees with four offices throughout the United States and $24 million in revenues.
Stessman earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and a Master of Business Administration Degree from The University of Iowa in Iowa City. She continues to maintain an active license as a registered nurse in the state of Nebraska.
In addition to being the Chairman of Strategic’s Board of Directors, Stessman is a Board member at the University of Iowa Henry B. Tippie College of Business, Audit Chair and Board member for Access Bank, Board member for ALCO, and Board member for University of Iowa Athletic Club. She is a member of the American Nurses Association, Nebraska Nurses Association, Women Impacting Public Policy, and National Association of Women Business Owners.
